Craftspace Collective

The Craftspace Collective project focuses on ideas of guerrilla craft, DIY craft and craftivism and is aimed at diverse young people aged 16–25 (some of whom are not in education, employment and training) with some interest and ability in the arts.

I ran two drop-in sessions for the project in Pigeon Park in central Birmingham. We used large-scale crochet and finger knitting techniques to create new structures from familiar cityscape materials like barrier tapes and electrical wire. It was a joy to witness young people discovering the addictive nature of craft for the first time!
